In hydraulic systems, the purity of the medium used plays a decisive role for the smooth functioning and service life of numerous components, for example the hydraulic systems, gear connections and plain bearings. If abrasive particles such as dust, abrasion or residues of coatings are transported with the medium, these components are exposed to increased wear and accelerated aging. This type of contamination can be made visible by filtration of the fluid and subsequent evaluation of the sedimented residues.
The particles deposited on the filter membrane are divided into classes >6µm and >14µm and converted into a numerical code as shown in the table below. This means that the existing oil purity can be assessed in a comparable and reliable manner.
